About
History
As freshmen, many of us would have benefited from some advice: whether we were second guessing our choice of major, flipping out over our first midterm, or even just getting lost on the way to classes. Unfortunately, such support is not always available. Thus, in the spring of 2005, E98 was founded by Heena Patel to address this lack of resources at Berkeley. With small, ~20 student sections, 2-3 older engineers were able to help introduce freshmen engineers to the world of Berkeley Engineering.
Despite some shortcomings, the new Decal received outstanding reviews from both students and instructors! Each year, the class has expanded, to 100 students (divided evenly among 5 sections) in 2006, and 150 students (divided among 8 sections) in 2007. This year, E98 coordinators David Liang and Michelle Lew, faced with an incredibly enthusiastic pool of instructors, have set up 12 sections for 250 engineering students for the upcoming Fall 2008 semester.
The primary purpose of E98 is to provide undergraduate engineering students with the necessary tools and knowledge to make the most of their years at Berkeley. Because we believe in the idea of learning by example, much of the tutelage provided will come from your experiences! The goal is for you to become a mentor to the students: helping them adjust academically, offering career planning advice, and most importantly, encouraging them to find their niche here at Cal.
